Gillian Sharma is a former pre-school teacher and musician who hosts her own monthly podcast for young children. Gillian’s material is different from most musical podcasts for children in that it is not merely entertaining but is designed to foster listening skills as well as basic musical concepts. Gillian’s idea for her style of podcast came out of her own experience searching for musical programs for her own two children. Growing up in England, she remembers listening to “Listen With Mother,” a popular, British radio program. As a new mother in the U.S., she searched for something similar for her own children to no avail. At one point it dawned on her that she could create something herself and she has not stopped writing songs and stories since.
When we were hired to build the “Listen Together Podcast” website, we drew on Gillian’s quaint stick figure drawings to create a variety of children and parents actively participating in the games and activities of the podcast. Additionally, we helped Gillian bring to life her idea for a podcast mascot, “Crispy Crow.” Crispy Crow can be found in various places on the website, a focal point being a whimsical tree with crow’s nest graphic that we designed for the musical samples page of the site. I approached Sue Weaver to create a website for Listen Together Podcast. I had some ideas, but Sue had the understanding and vision to come up with a wonderful design. I love the look, the user friendliness, and Crispy Crow is all that I could have wanted!”
