Being a Professional (Why Branding Matters)

Being a Professional (Why Branding Matters)

November 5, 2019 By Sue Baily Weaver

Why does branding matter so much?

Branding is more than having a logo designed for your company, though that is a great start.

Part of branding is projecting professionalism. My mom was my first teacher regarding professionalism. I was in the 6th grade and I really wanted to start babysitting so that I could have spending money. The advice my mom gave me was, “If you really want to be the favorite babysitter, you have to do more than they ask you to. First off, you have to play with the kids, and then, after they are in bed, if there are dirty dishes in the sink, do them. Straighten up the living room. If you do, you will be the first one they call the next time they need a sitter.”

Branding is like that. When I first worked at an ad agency, the standards were higher than any place I’d worked before. Everything that went out the door had to be perfect. The stamps on the letters had to be carefully placed in the corner.

How do you conduct your business? Do people see you as a professional?
